VCON Enables Videoconferencing in Telekom Austria's Multimedia Terminals

APC Interactive integrates VCON videoconferencing solutions in 500 MultimediaStations

Nov. 15, 2004 (Herzliya, Israel) – VCON (Euronext- Nouveau Marché -ISIN CODE: IL 00 108 30540), a worldwide leader in audio and videoconferencing solutions, today announces the integration of its videoconferencing solutions in Telekom Austria’s MultimediaStation terminals.

Telekom Austria’s MultimediaStation terminals are telephone booths that feature an internal computer system, flat screen monitor, voice receiver and integrated webcam. The 500 terminals, which are connected via a Virtual Private Network, offer a wide range of broadband applications, from Internet surfing and up-to-date local events calendars to the transmission of digital videoconferencing.

APC Interactive, an Austrian company that developed the MultimediaStation, selected VCON to provide the videoconferencing components. VCON endpoints work with ISDN-Phoning, ISDN Videophones and LAN-Videophones (H.323) to enable IP video calls from one MultimediaStation to others throughout the country. VCON's PacketAssist™ architecture provides enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) over IP. MultimediaStation users can also place videoconferencing calls to other ISDN-connected users worldwide. The application has a customized user interface, developed using the VCON Development Kit (VDK).

“At the price of a simple telephone call, people all over Austria and the surrounding countries can now see and speak to friends and relatives living abroad,” said Gordon Daugherty, chief marketing officer, VCON. “By growing the network of MultimediaStation terminals, videoconferencing becomes more affordable and will soon be as common as making a phone call.”

An additional 800 MultimediaStation terminals are planned for installation throughout Austria by 2006. Similar projects are also being established in Slovenia and Germany.
